[books] An excerpt from my book, .eduaM

Hey there, just figured I’d post something about a project I started awhile back. Somewhere along the way I decided to write a book. I won’t elaborate on the plot beyond what is excerpted below, but I guess in some weird way, maybe if I just force myself to look back to when I started writing this sad, strange tale, I could possibly embarrass myself enough to finish it. Self publishing drafts on lulu.com. Hella cheap.

…The next day I woke up and found six composition books in my night stand. One said “Maude” on the cover and one said “TurboFoot”. One said “Maud Margot” and one said “Nick”. The two names on the last of them were not legible and I could not distinguish the handwriting between the six for certain. They appeared to be some form of crude note passing technique for people with addictions because they don’t let you have cell phones in East Wing. When I saw her in the morning group session she welcomed me with the biggest smile and a hug, said “I love you.”, and kissed me on the cheek. I sat down next to her and confidently held her hand. The lion ring was gone and in place was a tiny bit of shoe string tied in a knot.

You are not allowed to have shoe string in East Wing. I’m not really sure if it was her idea or mine but I didn’t have any shoe string, so I just asked her if that meant that we were engaged now. She nodded. The signs were everywhere, literally, so we walked right out of the front door of the facility and never looked back.

The end.

J/k…

11.       The next day I woke up and found six composition books in my night stand. One said “Maude” on the cover and one said “TurboFoot”. One said “Maud Margot” and one said “Nick”. The two names on the last of them were not legible. They appeared to be some form of crude note passing technique for people with addictions because they don’t let you have cell phones in a psych ward. I could not distinguish the handwriting between the six for certain. I only have one of the notebooks left because the rest were lost in the struggle, if you will. Almost of the pages are torn out. As best as I can recall, one of the conversations in one of those notebooks went something like this:
Hello Maude

-“Hello”

“Hola Chica”

-“Don’t speak Spanish.”

“Where’s Marnie”

-“Sleeping. How’s yur foot”

“Hurts like hell. Since when do you wear glasses?”

-“I wear them all the time. Like my Dad.”

When I saw her in the morning group session she welcomed me with a sad smile and a hug, said good morning and kissed me on the cheek. I sat down next to her and held her hand. The lion ring was gone and in place was a tiny bit of shoe string tied in a knot, You are not allowed to have shoe string in East Wing. I didn’t have any, so I just asked her if that meant that we were married now. She simply nodded and wasn’t smiling at all.

  1. This is a very compelling excerpt from your book. Having read the rest I would say that reading this gives the reader a very effective peek at the rest.
